Kackaamin Family Development Centre is hosting and delivering this residential healing opportunity created specifically for Indigenous family systems from Vancouver Island. This work will strengthen inter-generational family systems to serve as pillars in their home communities.
This healing opportunity has been designed for families who have started on their healing journey and would like to look at the inter-generational impacts of the Residential School Legacy. Participants will be lead through a process of understanding trauma by engaging in psycho educational material and experiential exercises. This unique and in-depth healing session will guide participants through a journey of working through one’s own personal and familial traumas and delayed grief. This healing journey will examine how historical trauma has affected succeeding generations of Residential School Survivors, and will also examine pathways towards healing.
Healing will encompass traditional ceremony and culture. In turn, participants must abstain from any and all drug and alcohol use during programming, in order to be fully connected to the Creator and Ancestors. Emotional and physical healing are also central to this program, and participants need to have a clear mind and spirit in order to do the tough work.
Youth 16 and older will participate in their own individual trauma training with Jane Middleton-Moz’s interns and will be provided a certificate of training following the 6 day event. Youth younger than 16 interested in this opportunity may apply to participate, and will be admitted through a case-by-case assessment of maturity by KFDC’ clinical team.
